Hi, I'm Ayla! I'm a first-year Ph.D. student at the University of Colorado Boulder specializing in solar physics. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and got my B.A. in Astrophysics at UC Berkeley. My current research focuses on studying fine-scale structures in sunspot penumbra.

My past work includes improving space weather forecasting software, refining Type Ia supernovae coordinates, and developing methods for standardizing Type Ia supernovae spectra. I've also taught general astronomy courses, and helped teach and develop an introductory Python course at UC Berkeley. My underlying passion lies in working with data and developing software to tackle interesting problems.

When I'm not coding or thinking about space, you'll probably find me backpacking, devouring noodles, napping with my cat, or tending to my excessive amount of plants.
